Clutter Busting

I just finished reading the book, "Clutter Busting: Letting Go of What's Holding You Back" by Brooks Palmer. Could it really be that my stuff is holding me back? I think I believe it, because I am so unmotivated and feeling weighed down in my home office. And why not? It's piled with books, which are rather heavy objects. The exercises in the book are weird but intriguing, such as finding an item you haven't used in a long while, setting it on a chair, and carrying on a conversation with it. "So we haven't had any interaction for a while and I'm just wondering why you're still here." Hilarious, isn't it? But at the same time if you really listen and don't try to argue with the object/yourself, you will hear the answer. Let it go! So I daintily tried a little clutter busting in my bedroom. Books (surprise, surprise) were stacked on and stuffed into my rather large nightstand. I took out a pile, kept three and (after careful perusal, which took an hour or so) tossed six. Okay, you're supposed to be more decisive than that; I'm just a beginner. I will improve with practice! It's time to stop identifying with our things, to break free and just BE who we are. As Mr. Palmer suggests, I am enough just the way I am. I am looking forward to the new paths that will open up as I continue the clutter busting process. |
